BC Ambassador Candidates for 2009!

BC Ambassador Candidates for 2009!

Here are the BC Ambassador Candidates for 2009!

What is BC Ambassador you ask?

Well, the British Columbia Ambassador program was established to nurture provincial leaders of the future, to promote and assist with the expenses of post-secondary education, and to create links of friendship and understanding  throughout BC communities.

Candidates are given about 5 months, to organize a campaign encompassing creative fund raising, preparing speeches, studying for a 3 hour knowledge exam about British Columbia, setting up a community table, gearing up for a judges interview and onstage impromptu question, and a talent presentation!

wow-sounds like A LOT of work doesn’t it?

The lucky recipients of the British Columbia Ambassador titles are awarded with post secondary bursary(s) as well the the mission of fund raising for a charity of their choice using their titles to help raise funds during their one year reign.

These beautiful and talented young cuties are “girl guides to be.”

They’re called the Sparks and their annual thinking day celebrations, held in mid February at Columbia Elementary School are where I was asked to come in and teach the girls about their country of choice: India!

I taught the girls a traditional Punjabi dance aswell as some neat facts about India, the girls went home eager to practise their new dance moves and expand on their knowledge of the diverse country!

Multicultural Festival-”To the Beat of A Different Drum!”

MultiCultural Week!-February 15-21, 2009

As the Youth Rep and Board Member for the South Okanagan Immigrant and Community Services(SOICS), I help in promoting diversity, inclusiveness, and presentations on anti-discrimination. SOICS provides a Safe Harbour at our office, located in downtown Penticton.

Penticton’s Annual Multicultural Festival is the biggest MultiCultural Event of the year in Penticton. It was held at the Penticton Lakeside Resort from 11am-5pm, with year’s theme:‘To the Beat of a Different Drum’

As Canadians and residents of our community, we are very lucky to live among such rich heritage and strength in diversity. Each individual around us has so much to offer to one another by drawing upon our amazing multitude of cultures, religions and histories as a source of identity, community and national pride!

Take a moment to look around you, at school, work, while shopping, or where ever you are, and see the beauty of the diversity that surrounds you!
